Abstract

In this paper the structure of cork-forests (Quercus suber) in Italy (Latium, Calabria, Sardinia and Sicily) and North-Africa is analysed. This is our second contribution describing Mediterranean anthropic forests. Previously the dynamics of Eucalyptus plots in Sardinia and Tunisia has been studied. Varying arboreous cover, understory trends in cork-forests seem to differ from those in Eucalyptus plots, where higher brightness makes the growth of Helian- themetea guttati, Thero-Brachypodietea and Stellarietea mediae characteristic species easier. In cork-forests the characteristic species of both Quercion ilicis and Quercetalia pubescentis are made easy in their growth.
