THE ROLE AND THE CHARACTERS OF SEEDS IN THE FRUITS OF WILLIAMS PEAR

Abstract
The trials have been performed in the pear plantation in Gladnoš, Vojvodina. The stock was the quince MA. Williams pears were pollinated by the following pear varieties: Coloree de Juillet (I), Beurre Clairgeau (II), Doyene d'hiver (III) and Passa Grassana (IV). The anthesis was examined in free pollinated fruits (V) as well as in trial plots where no one pollination was done. By the analysis it has been established that there exist the significant differences between seeds number in a fruit in dependance of pollination tree and ambient circumstances. (Tab. 1) A dependance of the weigh and of seeds number on the ambient has been established in the trial (Tab 2), r = 0,31. In the whole experimentation course the number of seeds per a fruit does not have any influence on seeds weight, r = 0,032. However the results of each year separately show that the seed number per a fruit has an influence on the weight. Correlation coefficients being: in 1975 0,40; in 1976 0,16; in 1977 0,57; in 1978 0,34 and in 1979 0,044. Climate conditions in those years explain the cited dependance (Tab 3 and 4). Seeds number is in a great positive correlation with the number of the harvested fruits (tab 5) if the whole experiment period is concerned regardless how the fructification is performed. The differences among correlation coefficients in variances are due to the various demands of the varieties in the course of meiosis, fructification and fruit developpment.
