Abstract

Investigations of cucumber fruit ripening stage influence to yield and seed quality were done in the aim to estimate the optimum time for mechanical harvesting. The fruits of cucumber variety Delikates were picked up at estimated physiologically ripening stage and divided to the three groups according to developing stage. After extraction the yield and quality of seed were determined. The highest yield and the best quality of seed had the medium large fruits of orange-yellow colour with 20 – 30% of green rind. Larger fruits had the higher percentage of fully filed seeds, higher 1000 seeds weight, but lower germination. The small, not enough ripen fruits had the lowest yield of fully filed seeds, the seed of the smallest 1000 seeds weight, but seed of acceptable quality. According to the results of one year investigation, in the aim to achieve high yield and good seed quality, for cucumber variety Delikates as a optimum ripening stage for mechanical harvesting can be suggested stage when the most of fruits in field have orange-yellow colour with 20 – 30% green rind.
