Abstract
In the GV3 x NC13 flue-cured tobacco hybrid progenies there were some with acceptable agronomic characteristics, but it was observed that their flowering dates were not uniform, as was expected. The selected progenies were tested in the comparative tests which were organized as randomised block, in four repetitions. They were planted at the Zagreb Tobacco Institute experimetal field in Pitomača, in the period 1991-1995. The technology was usual, and differed from year to year only as it was necessary to adapt to the weather conditions. All of the selected GV3 x NC13 progenies flowered later than standards: Drava and DH10. Differences in the P...5/1, P...5/1 6/5, P ...5/1 6/5 7 /4, P ...5/1 6/5 7/5 and P ...5/1 6/14 progenies were significant. The permanent control of the progenies appears to be necessary, selecting those earlier flowering but producing the same yield. In the tests in which the standards need more than 65 days for reaching the flowering date, the vegetation phase as well as population uniformity can not be satisfactorily judged.
