Abstract

Two newly recognized cultivars of spring oats - Željka and Vesna have been created within the oats breeding programme at the lnstitute of Plant breeding, Genetics and Biometrics of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zagreb. They are modern high yielding cultivars adapted to the agroecological area of Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia. Vesna has shorter vegetation period then Željka by 3-5 days. By their grain yield they significantly exceed the domestic and forign standards. In the trials they yielded over 7 t/ha of dry grains, while in general production they are superior by 5 to 6 t/ha of dry grains (Orahovica 1994 and 1995, and Županja in 1994). As regards their adaptability and stability Vesna and Željka can be strongly recommended for production.
