Abstract

In the last few years tourism has become one of the most significant economic activities in Croatia, and is an important part of staying in a tourist destination. One of the aims in the development of Croatian tourism is definitely widening the existing offer even beyond the main tourist season. In order to achieve this aim it is necessary to develop new forms of tourist offer and products within sport tourism. As one specific type of tourism, sport tourism offers certain benefits to destinations which incorporate it in their development and strategic plans. The same might be implemented as a direction of tourism development of all Croatian regions. Croatia has to recognise the above mentioned. To start with, it needs to innovate sport and tourist offer according to modern requests of tourist demand. It is essential to improve cooperation between public and private sector and legislative body which will enable private sector to invest in that type of tourist offer. The aim of this work is to show potentials of sport tourism and its role in the development of the whole tourism in Croatia. Thanks to attraction and popularity which sport enjoys, this type of tourism is ideal for development of sustainable entrepreneurship.
