Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine certain aspects of classroom climate in relation to students’ age, gender and their school achievement. Three aspects of classroom climate were used: the quality of interaction among students, the quality of interaction between students and teachers, and the sensitivity to violence in the classroom context. A total of 1427 participants, primary school students from several counties of the Republic of Croatia participated in the research. The survey included 69 classrooms, from the fourth to the eighth grade of primary school. An instrument that consisted of two parts - the general data questionnaire and the Classroom climate scale was applied. As expected, the results showed a significant decline in school achievement and classroom climate variables in higher grades compared to younger age groups. Furthermore, girls, compared to boys, had higher grades and assessed the classroom climate more positively. A significant correlation has been established between the different aspects of classroom climate as well as between the climate and school achievement.
