Abstract

This article tells about Sethian and Valentinian (gnostic) conception of the feminine as pleromatic principle in the relation with designated middle platonic and later-greek philosophical comprehension of the feminine as unperfect disposition. With an attempt to present the authentic gnostic meaning of the feminine, in the sense which relies on the gnostic impression of the androgyne as the perfect and supreme principle, indirectly has been given gnostic’s cosmogonian thought on which base is farther given some basic difference between Christians and Gnostics. Three concepts of this paper, which have very important meaning in gnostic theachings, took a prior place. These are Barbelo, pneuma and Sophia – notability has been given primary by philosophical and philosophy-historical meaning of them.
