Abstract

The article is a review of archaeological localities on Herzegovinian space
containing early Christian sacral objects. At the same time this serves
as the only witness of Christian presence in this area before the seventh
century. The author first, without deep involvement, talks about the directions
of spreading of Christianity in the Roman province of Dalmatia,
namely about the ways and time in which Christianization happened in
the hinterland of some important colonies on the east Adriatic shore.
Such include Salona, Narona and Epidaurus. The material proof being
the only sources of proof for Christian existence in this area, the focal
point of the work are the archaeological investigations of early Christian
localities which were conducted in the second half of the 20th century
and the interpretations of the fore mentioned in relevant scientific literature.
