Abstract

The motif of “man’s love for an android”, which forms the basis of Viktor Pelevin’s S.N.U.F.F. (2012), is in this article analysed in the context of the posthumanities reflection about the end of man, that is, about his transition into the posthuman condition. The analysis focuses on the ways in which the narrative world of this dystopian novel represents the love of the male protagonist – who can unarguably be classified as a posthuman – for his biosynthetic mistress – the smart machine of the highest class. The article speculates on whether this novel depicts not only the end of man but also the end of love as it has been depicted in many great works of world literature.
