Abstract

The objectives of the paper are to determine the link between population education and development indicators in Croatia, and to identify the link between farmers’ education and agricultural development in EU countries. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient indicates a strong positive correlation between education and GDP / capita (r = 0.8776, p <0.01), education and county development index (r = 0.8457, p <0.01), and farmers’ education and agricultural development in the Union countries (r = 0.4534, p <0.05). Regarding the fact that innovations are more easily and quickly accepted by younger and more educated farmers, the current age and educational structure of Croatian farmers points to sociodemographic difficulties in incorporating innovation into their business practices.
