Abstract
Even though hepatitis B is uncommon in the USA, EU, and Croatia, it is not highly contagious, and it is not epidemic, still there are recommendations that all infants should be vaccinated three times against it. First time as new-borns before discharging from hospital. In the USA big pharmaceutical corporations, producers of the vaccine, have supported this recommendation by large donations. Recently, there have been many reports in the medical literature that hepatitis B vaccination causes many health problems in children and adults; for instance chronic immune and neurological disease. Scientists warn that genetically engineered hepatitis B vaccines contain polypeptide sequences which are present in human neurological tissues such as myeline and that by a mechanism called molecular mimicry these polypeptides can act as autoantigens which can induce autoimmune demyelinating brain diseases such as multiple sclerosis and a number of development disorders. In Croatia according to the Vaccination Programme this measure has been implemented since 1999 (for new-borns since 2007). The need for such measure is being critically discussed.
