Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyse the experience of benefit from so-called consultative group supervision of parental care supervisors of measures for the protection of welfare of the child. Three groups of respondents participated in the research: supervisors who participated in supervision organised or supervisors (N=8), supervisors who did not experience such organised supervision (N=8) and social workers from the Department or children, youth, marriage and family within the Social Welfare Centre (N=6). The data were obtained through focus groups with supervisors and semi-structured interviews with social workers in charge of planning and monitoring measures of professional help for parents. The data were analysed by the process of thematic analysis. The results show that to those who participated in supervision an important motive for participation was better performance of their supervisory role, but also an interest for a new form of professional support. The supervisors who did not participate in supervision mention refreshing their knowledge and obtaining support as important motives for a future participation. Both groups emphasise the importance of the exchange of collegial experience in supervision and the development of competences. All three groups of respondents stated that contents of supervision should contribute to the clarification of the role of supervisors, improvement of skills in their work and providing support in the implementation o measures. Both groups of supervisors, regardless of their experience in supervision, state that a significant topic in supervision is the safety of the supervisor during the measure implementation. The results of the research are an incentive for the development of a specific model of supervision for parental care supervisors, but also for their targeted education.
