Abstract

To teach Italian language to foreign students necessarily
means to teach Italian culture and civilization as well, since there is an
intimate connection between these two disciplines. As a matter of fact,
many linguistic items, communicative formulas, idiomatic expressions,
colloquial features, as well as various elements of speech originate from
historical, social and anthropological reasons, i.e. from what is generally
called “culture”. Since foreign students are good observers of our habits
and behaviours, a possible way, among others, to teach elements of Italian
culture and civilization is to start from their observations and get them
actively involved in the learning process by playing the role of critics.
