Abstract

The article discusses The Pencil of Nature by William Henry Fox Talbot (1844), the Bilderatlas Mnemosyne (1927–1929) by Aby Warburg, and the literary opus of W. G. Sebald (1944–2001) in the context of the term “memory project.” In doing so, focusing on the relationship between words, images, and memory, Fox Talbot’s and Warburg’s works have been identified as “citations without citation marks” inscribed in Sebald’s specific narrative procedure.
