Abstract

With the present research, we wanted to explore and analyze the knowledge of the children about the functioning of the memory. For this purpose, the research has been done on 32 subjects, 16 girls and 16 boys old between 4 and 6 years. The children listened individually the story named “The imprisoned princess„ (Cornoldi e Orlando, 1988) and answered to the questions about the causes of forgetfulness, the strategies of retrieval and the strategies of memorization.
The analysis of the responses indicated that the knowledge the children have about the functioning of the memory, increase with the age. Namely, younger children could report only one or two causes of forgetfulness, strategies of retrieval and memorization, while the older children reported a large number.
