Abstract

In 2006 the 50th jubilee volume of Krčki zbornik was published in which a synopsis of the Society’s work and a bibliography of Krčki zbornik were presented. Its title page was designed by the author of these lines. It stands out through its extreme, almost banal simplicity, but all with the aim of creating a particular symbolism which at first may not seem obvious and should therefore be "exposed" in this place. For, the title page is dominated by 50 lines in different tones ranging from light orange to dark red. They symbolise the 50 volumes of Krčki zbornik covers of which were also made in these tones. The varying width of the lines reflects the difference in the quantity of the volumes in question and the white spaces between the lines, also in unequal widths, are thought as a reminiscence of the differences in the publication dynamics of the respective volumes. The title of the volume Krčki zbornik, 50th jubilee volume, is an attempt to modernise the font used in the titles of the most of the covers, especially the earlier ones. In the same place, i.e. on the cover of the 50th festive Zbornik, the emblem of the Krk Historical Society, designed by the same author, was also presented. Up to then the Society didn’t have any recognizable sign of its own. The emblem consists of seven squares outlined with a red line, filled with details of the Baška tablet, the essential monument of the Croatian identity in this region and, therefore, a pride and joy for every true Bodul (islander). The seven squares represent the seven modern-day administrative communities of the Krk island: Omišalj, Dobrinj, Malinska - Dubašnica, Vrbnik, Baška, Punat and the town of Krk. The eighth square features a miniature map of the Krk island.
