Slovenia, NATO and the EU in Light of Security Partnership

Abstract

Slovenia as a new state has very quickly realized that security is open concept, meaning that the problem of security is really related to the appearances which are deep-rooted in the structures of policy and economy.
Looking from the aspect of constantly changing international security environment, the cooperative approach in guarantying security becomes the basic princip le of successful defense of the contemporary societies. The response to the security challenges in the 21st century can be successful only if synergy of different measures with different factors on national level and in the framework of the international community is established.
Slovenia entered the NATO Alliance in the moment of its transformation to the collective defense community with broader and deeper understanding
of security, and EU which in 2003. started with its first independent military operation in Africa and is constantly making progress in the field of common security and defense policy. This however has influence on Slovenian understanding of security and perception of potential treats. It will also influence the way of Slovenian progress and place as the member of the EU and NATO.
