Abstract

One of the educational goals of the National Framework Curriculum (MZOS, 2011) is to encourage students’ creativity. This important task was a challenge for teachers even before the coronavirus pandemic, and it became even more challenging since the second semester of the 2019/2020 school year when, due to the pandemic, classes suddenly began to be held remotely. In this regard, a study was conducted to examine whether English language teachers employed in Split primary and secondary schools differ in stimulating students’ creativity before and during the coronavirus pandemic, and whether there are differences in stimulating students’ creativity before and during the pandemic with regard to the type of school, teachers’s age, and training on creativity. The Creativity Fostering Teacher Behaviour Index (Soh, 2000). found more frequent stimulation of creativity before the pandemic, while stimulation of creativity did not differ with respect to other independent variables. This paper discusses the importance of encouraging creativity in modern teaching with a special focus on the possibility of a creative approach in English language teaching.
