Abstract

The paper presents the development, organization, military operations and also consequences that were in some cases retaliation for the operations of the Austro-Hungarian naval air force in Pula. It also presents the difficulties confronted by the pioneers of the Austro-Hungarian naval air force, such as its commander, the admiral Count Rudolf Montecuccoli, engineer and aircraft builder Josef Mickl and Viktor Klobučar Rukavina de Bunić, the first commander of the Experimental Naval Aircraft Unit and Station, but mostly the pilots who flew these airplanes and who often experienced at their own peril the technical shortcomings and limits of individual aircraft models of the time. Besides the naval air force, the paper also describes the events tied to the Entente’s aerial bombardment of the Pula during the First World War.
