Abstract

The paper maps acts of resistance within the Zadar performance scene and, through their analysis, reads the atmosphere of the city’s everyday life. The research was conceived as a complement to existing studies and documentation of the history of performance art in Croatia, tracing both the synchronic and diachronic development of Zadar’s performance scene from the post-war 1990s to the present. Finally, the paper offers critical interpretations of the genealogy of Cynic performance art, the paradox of non-integrative benevolence in reflecting on the common good, and the issue of social engagement, which emerges as an extension of the neoliberal politics of sentimentality.
