Abstract

This paper presents the fundamental contributions of Fran Milobar, a forgotten and silenced Croatian scientist, in the field of national economy theory and international trade. His works respresent a key contribution to Croatian economic thought from the beginning of the 20th century. He dealt with a wide range of economic topics, as well as topics from the fields of law and history, political science, politics and journalism, which places him among the most significant intellectuals and economic thinkers of that period in Croatian history. This text presents his approach to the theory of international trade, with an emphasis on the problems of analyzing the balance of trade and payments, the basic instruments
of foreign trade policy, the mechanisms of money, credit and exchange rates. Many of his considerations and analyses are still relevant today and therefore deserve a contemporary reinterpretation.
