Abstract

The paper considers four questions raised by Andrić’s statement: We are all dead, we are simply buried one by one (THE DAYS OF THE CONSULS, 1945; THE BRIDGE ON THE DRINA 1945): (1) whether we are indeed all dead although we are, in fact, still alive; (2) whether we really are buried in turn; (3) to what extent this statement accords with Andrić’s reflections on death and (4) what material Antun Branko Šimić’s poetry offers for addressing these questions.
