Abstract

Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is a systematic method designed to identify and prevent product or process problems before they occur, and it is focused on failure prevention - on reducing possibilities of failure as well as on increasing user satisfaction. There are four main FMEA categories: system FMEA, design FMEA, process FMEA and service FMEA. The method could be identified by the uniformity of terms used in applying this method, such as: failure, consequence, risk, failure cause, importance, probability of appearance, probability of detection and RPN factor. The application of FMEA raises the quality costs, mostly increasing the preventive component. This paper shows partial results of the conducted research on the application of the FMEA method in foreign trade companies in the Republic of Croatia.
