Abstract

Tomato Leaf Mould, caused by the fungus Passalora fulva (Cooke) U.
Braun & Crous (synonym Cladosporium fulvum), is a common and destructive disease on tomatoes worldwide grown in humid conditions (Babadoost, 1989). Leaf mould is primarily a problem on greenhouse tomatoes. It is rarely seen on outdoor crops. The disease is most destructive in a the greenhouse during the fall, early winter, and spring when the relative humidity is most likely to be high, and air temperatures are such that heating is not continuous. Leaf Mould
was confirmed in Croatia in 1977 (Cvjetković, 1977). During 2006 and 2007, an extensive survey among Croatian tomato growers was done. Samples were taken in 7 counties on 15 locations. The presense of Passalora fulva was confirmed in 5 counties on 7 locations. Koch's postulates were fulfilled. Every location was represented in Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) coordinate
system (Horvat i sur., 2003). The UTM coordinate system is a grid-based method of specifying locati ons on the surface of the earth which is a practical application of a 2-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. It is used to identify locations on the earth, but differs from the traditional method of latitude and longitude in several respects. The disease was mainly found in hydroponics
tomato crop production on the hybrid Belle. Disease infection was very high, from 65 to 82%. The results confirm that Tomato Leaf Mould represents a significant problem in tomato greenhouse production, especially in hydroponics production. Therefore, it becomes extremely important to apply sanitary measures and introduce new tomato hybrids resistant to Passalora fulva .
