THE SPEECH OF THE MODRUŠ URBARIUM

Abstract

This paper, based on the comparison of the language of the Modruš urbarium with the speech of the autochthonous population of Ogulin – Modruš valley, present speeches of the descendants of the Croatian population who left the middle of Croatia half a century ago, and with the present speech of the descendants of emigrants from the wider area of Ogulin who left their old country two hundred years ago, tries to identify which language characteristics of the Modruš urbarium are the result of routine manners of the Croatian written language in the Ogulin – Modruš valley of that time. It has been concluded that there are much more latter ones, at least when we speak about the grammatical characteristics and the general lexis.
