The journal was founded in 1983 by Department of Archaeology, Center for Historical Sciences, University of Zagreb and originally entitled Prinosi. In 1985 (vol. 2) changes its title to Prilozi. From 1992 Center for Historical Sciences changes its name to Institute of Archaeology. Prilozi Instituta za arheologiju u Zagrebu / Contributions of Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb is an open access journal that publishes original scientific papers, preliminary reports, review papers and book reviews, including supplements, in the field of Archaeology and related Social Sciences and Humanities. Scientific contributions are subject to two external peer reviews in a double anonymized peer review process. From volume 38, it is published twice a year (one volume, two issues) both in print and online format. The journal is open to all authors without any restrictions (including but not limited to affiliation, organization membership, nationality, gender, etc.), without fees of any kind for the authors or readers, and papers are published in bilingual format, including Croatian, English or combination of other languages of the author’s choice. The Journal is published by the national Institute of Archaeology, Zagreb, Croatia, and is financed by the Croatian’s Ministry of Science, Education and Youth. Journal is indexed in WoS Emerging Sources Citation Index, Scopus, ERIH PLUS, EBSCO and CNRS/INST. Scientific, review and professional peer-reviewed papers published in the journal are assigned a DOI, and authors are recommended to use ORCID identifier. One of the journal technical editors is a member of EASE (European Association of Science Editors), and the Croatian Association for Scholarly Communication (CROASC).

- Rights: Journal has fully open access. Article submission, processing, and publishing are free of charges. No additional fees of any kind are applied to authors and readers. Readers are allowed to read, download, copy, redistribute, print, search and link to material, and alter, transform, or build upon the material, or use them for any other lawful purpose as long as they attribute the source in appropriate manner according to the CC BY licence. Authors retain copyright and grant the publisher a licence to publish their manuscript as the original publisher and to distribute their content.
