Abstract

In today’s rapidly evolving technological society, STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) are
key drivers of innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development. Despite their importance, various societal and
structural barriers continue to hinder access to STEM education and careers, particularly among youth from
marginalized, rural, and underrepresented communities. This paper explores the increasingly significant role of civil
society organizations (CSOs) in overcoming these barriers and promoting an inclusive approach to STEM through
community-based initiatives, advocacy efforts, and cross-sector collaboration implemented through various successful
projects. The study analyzes the existing capacities of CSOs to support STEM education, their strategic role in connecting
citizens with institutions, and their potential to act as agents of social change. Through a review of secondary sources
and case studies of successful initiatives and projects, the paper identifies key models and best practices that have
proven effective in raising awareness, increasing participation, and supporting youth retention in STEM education.
Special attention is given to initiatives and projects that address gender inequality, regional disparities, and
socioeconomic exclusion. The paper concludes with concrete recommendations for strengthening CSO capacities,
enhancing collaboration with educational institutions and policymakers, and developing sustainable and scalable
strategies to promote STEM through the implementation of targeted projects. This research contributes to a better
understanding of the civil sector’s role in achieving public policy goals and educational equity, offering practical insights
for practitioners, educators, and decision-makers.
