Sažetak
Mental health is a state of the body in which a person realizes their abilities, can
cope with everyday stress, and contribute to their community. Mental health is
on a continuum, so people can have impaired mental health, but without the
presence of a mental illness, and vice versa. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is
one of the most common chronic inflammatory diseases in children that begins
before the age of 16, and manifests by inflammation of one or more joints
that lasts for at least 6 weeks, has an unknown etiology, and occurs in all age
groups. Children with JIA frequently experience emotional challenges and impairments
in daily functioning. This study aimed to examine the significance of
some biological (age), psychological (trait anxiety and anxiety sensitivity) and
social (family and social support) factors on mental health and psychological
distress. The study included 70 children and adolescents diagnosed with JIA by
pediatric specialists and subspecialists in pediatric rheumatology. The results
indicate a significant predictive contribution of age, trait anxiety, and social support
to mental health, while trait anxiety was found to be a significant predictor
of psychological distress. Future research should deepen understanding of
these associations.
