Sažetak
On 19th June 2003 the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention was adopted in Geneva revising the the Seafarers’ Identity Documents Convention Nr. 108 of 1958. The Croatian Parliament passed the Law on Convention Nr. 185 Ratification of 2003 without having ratified the 1958 Convention. Thus on the global level Croatia takes part in the system of not only improved seafarers’ security in international maritime navigation but also improved safety of passengers, crew and ships, states and individuals. The content of the Convention is arranged in 18 articles and three annexes (I, II and III). Annex III has two parts: mandatory requests and recommended procedures. It creates numerous legal and other obligations to various subjects. The Convention has been in force since 9th February 2005 and has been ratified by 18 states sofar. Passing of implementing regulations follows along with adding computer system for biometrical maritime documents issuing (computer data base guaranteeing privacy to seafarers) as well as permanent information centre introduction (‘’stops’’) in the state.
