Sažetak

The art of painting of the illuminated manuscripts is considered as one of the most notable works of the so called Ottonian renaissance, and the aforementioned notion refers to the rulling era of Saxon rulers, whereby the Ottonians take the principles of rulling from Charlemagne. Due to this fact it is not surprising that illuminated manuscripts imitate Carolingian examples, notably Ada group. Except for the carolingian, the Byzantine and Antique influences are important to mention. The topic of this article encompasses the particularity of style of the four groups of illuminated manuscripts that are linked to the scriptorium in Reichenau, while giving also a short overview of the cultural and historic situation in which the scriptorium comes to existence and in which it develops.
