Abstract

Tourism is of great importance for the economy of Croatia. Every year, during the summer tourist season, statistics on the number of arrivals, nights spent in tourist accommodation and revenues generated from tourism are eagerly awaited. All business activities related to the tourist season benefit from it either directly or indirectly. Croatia joining the European Union in 2013 had a significant impact on Croatian tourism and contributed to greater competitiveness of the offer and quality of service. Croatian market entry is thus facilitated for foreign investors, and tourism receives new capital and investments. The aim of the paper is to investigate the extent to which income generated by tourism affects the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Republic of Croatia. Given that tourism revenues are about 20% of GDP, it can be concluded that the Croatian economy is dependent on tourism and
the tourist season. Tourism in Croatia is a significant economic driver, but it is extremely seasonal and sensitive to external factors.
