Sažetak

Croatian writer and lexicographer, Tomislav Maričić Kukljičanin (1929 – 2011)
dedicated his life to the cultural heritage of his native place Kukljica, particularly to
its local speech. His writings comprise a dictionary (Rječnik govora mjesta Kukljice
na otoku Ugljanu, 2000), a monograph about Kukljica (2003), short stories, plays
and verses. This contribution deals with his first book of dialectal poems Kamičiči
ditinjstva (1991), inspired by his childhood memories, people, events and customs
of his native place. Taking into consideration the linguistic creativity associated with poetry, our research interest was focused on the following questions: Does the
language used by Tomislav Maričić in the collection of poems Kamičići ditinjstva
correspond to the Chakavian speech of Kukljica or differ from it? Are there innovative
linguistic forms in his verses? For this purpose, phonology, morphology and
vocabulary were analysed. The research results were compared with the description
of the Chakavian speech of Kukljica by Mislav Benić (2014) and it was concluded
that the linguistic features of this local idiom are well reflected in the analysed
poems. There are no major deviations from the Kukljica idiom in phonology and
morphology of Slavic inherited lexicon nor of Romance loanwords. Most words
used by Tomislav Maričić are attested in dialectal dictionaries and etymological
resources. Neologisms were not found. This result was expected considering the
author’s engagement in collecting and promoting the linguistic heritage of his native
Kukljica. The presence of archaic words could be explained in the context
of thematic framework of analysed poems, defined by the title of the collection –
Kamičići ditinjstva (Childhood’s pebbles). Tomislav Maričić uses his mother tongue
as it was in his childhood, i. e. in the 1930-s and 1940-s. Some words from that
period don’t belong to the active vocabulary anymore, mainly due to the influence
of the Croatian standard.
