Educational System in the Second Half of the 18th and the Beginning of the 19th Century on the Territory of Croatia Proper (Banska Hrvatska)

Sažetak
The paper talks about the educational system in the second half of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century on the territory of present-day north-western Croatia. It follows the reform efforts to improve the educational system proposed by enlightened rulers such as Maria Theresa and Joseph II, and the impact of those reforms on Croatia Proper. It analyses the narrative sources from the mentioned period, such as the memoirs of Baltazar Adam Krčelić and Count Adam Oršić, the autobiography of Juraj Matija Šporer, the journal of Maksimilian Vrhovec, a travelogue by Balthasar Hacquet, as well as anonymous Kaikavian comedies and authorial comedies by Tituš Brezovački. The aim was to establish how these contemporary men, intellectuals from the said period, perceived the state reforms, how they reacted to the changes in the educational system, and how the new approaches to education affected the pupils, students, their professors and the society as a whole.
