Sažetak
In the 19th century, we follow Slovenian national movements among secondary school students. The secondary schools on the Slovenian territory were an integral part of the Austrian school system, Austrian school policy and administration. We have learned that Slovenian secondary school students had national movements both in schools and outside them. They fought for the Slovenian language, Slovenian culture, policy (United Slovenia), association with south-Slavic peoples, etc. Outside of school, secondary school students joined different Slovenian cultural and educational societies, libraries, and participated in camps and other Slovenian conventions where they promoted Slovenian national awareness. They established their student societies and wrote student publications. The case was different with the national movements in secondary schools. We have established that the national movements among secondary school students were different in different types of schools. We have found the cause for this in the school function i.e. whether it was a general education school or a trade school. National attempts of young people in school depended on the educational objectives of the school, emphasis on patriotic and national education, mother tongue, educational role of the teachers, etc. We demonstrated that the Slovenian national identity of secondary school students largely depended on the educational concept of a certain school, which was in gymnasiums, partially in general-program schools and in teacher schools designed by a secret curriculum created on the basis of national pressures and samples of opinion causing and leading to national confl icts in schools. Among all secondary schools, most of the Slovenian national movements were in gymnasiums where the international relations were tenser than in general-program schools and trade schools.
