Sažetak

Body image perception represents an important developmental and public health issue in the adolescent and young adult population. In the digital era, social media has become the predominant context for socialization and the formation of beauty standards. The aim of the study was to systematically analyze the mechanisms through which digital media influence body image perception and to examine their association with mental health outcomes. Findings indicate that intensive use of visually oriented social networking platforms is associated with increased social comparison, internalization of the ideal of thinness and muscularity, self-objectification, and higher levels of body dissatisfaction. Negative body image is strongly linked to depressive symptoms, anxiety, and eating disorders. Protective factors include media literacy, family support, and stable self-esteem. In conclusion, digital media represents a significant risk factor, but also a potential preventive avenue for promoting youth mental health.
