Sažetak

The aim of this paper is to examine the experiences of transgender persons on the labour market in the Republic of Croatia, with a focus on two key aspects: experiences during the hiring process and experiences within the workplace. The research findings indicate predominantly neutral to positive experiences in the hiring process, with no cases of direct discrimination reported. However, it is important to highlight that none of the respondents openly identified as transgender, which may suggest a prevailing fear of stigmatisation and rejection, as well as the use of identity-concealing and adaptive strategies for professional survival. In the context of employment, although most participants reported not having been exposed to direct discrimination by employers, one participant reported experiences involving elements of segregation and reduced visibility in the workplace. Additionally, some respondents reported unacceptable behaviour from colleagues and clients, indicating that workplaces are still not fully safe or inclusive for transgender persons. The study underscores the need for systematic education and the implementation of policies that ensure equality and safety for transgender persons on the labour market.
