Sažetak

The aim of the research is to examine the differences in the motor abilities of speed and coordination between male and female students at the age of 8 on a sample of 20 respondents (10 boys and 10 girls). The measurements were carried out at the beginning and at the end of the school year using two tests: hand tapping to test speed and a polygon of back and forth to test coordination. The research showed that there are no statistically significant differences by gender in the examined variables, but the indicators stand out: in the final measurement, boys achieved greater progress in hand tapping results, while girls in both measurements were indicatively better in the posttest polygon. It was also observed that increasing the body mass index increases the time required to pass through the training ground (r = .53; p < .05), i.e. the negative impact of higher body mass on coordination is indicated. An extremely important result is the achievement of relevant progress in the second measurement for all students, the number of strokes in hand tapping increased statistically significantly (Z = -3.88, p < .01) (M = 26.2, SD = 3.61 vs. M = 20.8, SD = 2.38), while the time needed to pass the polygon statistically significantly (Z = -1.90, p < .05) decreased (M = 17.2, SD = 2.69 vs. M = 19.3, SD = 4.79). A statistically significant interaction of gender and point of measurement (F = 7.63; p < .05) was found for hand tapping so that boys made more progress than girls. This interaction did not prove to be significant in the backward polygon (F = 1.87; p > .05), although a trend of faster progress is visible in boys. The obtained research results can serve as a useful guideline for classroom teachers in the planning and implementation of kinesiology activities, highlighting the importance of an individualized approach and encouraging physical activity for the proper motor development of students.
