The Historijski zbornik (Historical Journal) is the central publication of Croatian historians, reflecting the development of Croatian historiography from the end of World War II to the present. The journal is published by the Society for Croatian History, formerly known as the Historical Society of Croatia or the Association of Historical Societies of Croatia. It is the oldest professional historians' society in the Republic of Croatia, operating continuously since 1947. Historijski zbornik has been published without interruption since 1948, when the first volume was released. Almost all Croatian historians, historians from all Yugoslav republics, and foreign authors from other European countries—especially those from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe—have published their works in Historijski zbornik. The journal was closely associated with Jaroslav Šidak for a long time, as he edited a total of 27 volumes. The only exception in the unbroken editorial sequence from 1948 to 1984 occurred when Mirjana Gross edited volume 29–30 (1976–1977), which was dedicated to Šidak. After Šidak, Ivan Kampuš, a longtime member of the editorial board and secretary, succeeded him as editor and edited 13 volumes from 1985 to 1997. Ivica Prlender succeeded Kampuš as editor, and from 2008 to 2022, the editorial board was led by Damir Agičić. The journal publishes research, theoretical, and methodological scientific papers in the fields of history and related humanities, covering periods from antiquity to the contemporary era. The geographical focus of the journal's topics primarily relates to Croatian territory and neighboring areas in Southeastern and Central Europe, as well as countries in the Mediterranean region. The journal is categorized as an A1 journal, equated in quality with internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals. No fees are charged to authors for publication. Articles and discussions from Historijski zbornik are indexed in the following databases: ERIH Plus, Historical Abstracts (EBSCO), and Hrčak. Manuscripts are submitted to the editorial board continuously throughout the year exclusively via the website: https://hrcak.srce.hr/ojs/index.php/historijski-zbornik/index.
