Sažetak Czech 1890s modernism is a common term used for the first Czech generation that made its breakthrough led by the idea of “modernism” in literature. Most works of this group were written at the beginning of the twentieth century, but its protagonists had never entirely abandoned the fundamental standing points of the Czech 1890s modernism, although they were to some extent influenced by the new artistic atmosphere. After the dissolution of the group, the most important authors opted for different literary movements and genres; their works, however, remained homogeneous when it came to the main principles, and some of them had not forgotten their literary roots and poetic role models until the mid-twentieth century.
