MEDICINE – A PROMISING AREA FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF ROBOTICS

Sažetak
The paper describes the achievements of the application of robotics in medicine. Special interest is shown in surgical robots and the representatives of robots in different fields of medicine are described Robots designed to help in hospitals, at home and in retirement homes are also presented. The advantage of the socalled supervisory and communication robots, which would have their application in remote or small towns, is emphasized. The paper presents the latest developments in prosthetic controlled signals from the brain and those based on the interaction between the patient and the prosthetic
device. Special focus is on specific aspects of neurosurgery and the solution in the form of twohanded Croatian neurosurgical robot “Ronna“, which has successfully passed preclinical testing and is presently being prepared for its first operation as an assistant neurosurgeon. Finally, there is a presentation of miniature robots that are used for diagnosing and treatment of digestive tract, and also directions for the future development of medical mini and nano robots.
