Sažetak

Obesity is one of the fast-paced pandemics of the modern age. The global negative social repercussions
associated with this scourge have only lately time has been viewed critically, objectively, multidimensionally.
Although the bariatric surgical procedures are performed backwards for 60 years, its have been
positioned in the past few years in a place that objectively belonged. Very few surgical branches can
boast such meteoric success as the success achieved in the last two decades in bariatric surgery.
Surgery of obesity, or metabolic aspects of this branch of surgery, is subject to new examinations and
it can be said that an interesting future is expected in this area. All of these progressive shifts did not
happen accidentally, they would not be able to have without lessons we had to learn in the past. Thorny
time had to go through a bariatric surgery, full of controversy and skeptic to be today where they are
today. The paradigm of treating obesity has changed with the enormous variety of interests involved in
the game.
The paper provides a concise review of numerous surgical modalities that have been used throughout
history to treat pathological obesity. The paper also present comparative data on current and future trends
in surgical obesity with the original image and experience of the Baritry Team of UKC Tuzla Clinic for
Surgery.
