Sažetak

Waste is an ever-growing problem in environment protection worldwide. The paper deals with packaging which eventually ends up as waste. A more rational approach to packaging of some products can save up to 30% of the price of the final product. Selected here are typical examples of packaging of some frequently used products: juices, beverages, milk, food and other products sold in small packages such as perfumes, toilette waters and skin products, various cleaning products, electronic equipment (PCs, computer mice, USB memories, memory cards for digital cameras, etc.)
The situation on the market was studied in order to propose ways to cut down on waste by using more suitably designed and environment-friendly materials. Changes in packaging are proposed with advantages and benefits of these changes stressed.
Glass packaging should be used as much as possible, as it is healthiest and most environment-friendly. Glass can be recycled many times. Consumers are used to glass packaging and are in the habit of returning it to the shops.
The suggested changes in packaging do not require any new costs or work, yet they constitute significant savings.
Starting from pre-school, children should be taught that environment protection and waste management are part of life and not a burden.
