Abstracts Today, when various sciences are being developed with lightning speed, we think of their significance and of how they can be applied in everyday life. Teacher’s prestige is one of many questions that have been raised before this day science. We are going to review the problem briefly in the light of the investigations that have been conducted in some European countries. Moral prestige is most important in pedagogy. Behaviour of a person who has the sort of prestige becomes an example for other people. Its fabulous force influences other people’s modes of thought and deeds. The author aimed at answering the question: ‘Does living within a totalitarian system influence people’s mentality and, if yes, how?’ The hypothesis offered to be proved was as follows: ‘In post-totalitarian societies people are more dogmatic and represent antidemocratic positions than in the countries of old democracy’.
