Sažetak

This study investigates the synthesis and characterization of benzene-1,3-dihydrogensulfate, a non-cyclic ionophore for the selective extraction and transport of targeted metal ions. The synthesized ionophore demonstrated high selectivity for alkali metal ions (Na⁺ and K⁺) compared to transition metals (Zn²⁺, Ni²⁺) in aqueous solutions. The observed selectivity is attributed to ion size, charge density, associated anions, coordination geometry, and the solvent medium. IR, NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis were used to establish the structure, and computer modeling shed light on the electronic characteristics. These findings suggest the potential application of this ionophore in metal separation processes, particularly for the efficient recovery of alkali metals from complex mixtures
