Sažetak
The paper presents the results of an investigation into work burnout among primary school teachers. The analysis is based on the results of empirical research on a sample of 229 teachers from 19 primary schools situated in 17 Croatian counties. The research attempted to establish how Croatian primary school teachers assess the level of professional burnout, with regard to demographic factors, their assessment of self-respect and their position in the school (primary teacher/specialist subject teacher). The Scale of Professional Burnout ((MBI-NL-ES, Schaufeli, Daamen and Van Mierlo, 1994), and the Self-Respect Evaluation Scale (SES, Rosenberg, 1965.) were used in the research. Data about the demographic characteristics of the examinees were also gathered. The results show that the teachers’ personal characteristics (biographical features) and their evaluation of self-respect are related to all three aspects of professional burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal achievement.
