INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT SOURCES AND ZINC CONCENTRATION SUPPLEMENTS IN THE DIETS ON PRODUCTIVE TRAITS OF LAMBS

Sažetak

The aim of the present study was to determine the influence of different sources and concentrations of zinc in the diet on production traits of lambs. The study included 30 lambs of Merinolandschaf breed divided into three groups depending on the source and concentration of zinc in the diet. Lambs were fed with meadow hay and feed mixture of the same composition ad libitum. In the control group, feed mixture was supplemented with inorganic zinc (ZnSO4) in the amount of 0.30 mg/kg, experimental group I was supplemented with the same quantity of organic zinc (zinc-methionine), and experimental group II with a smaller amount of organic zinc (0.20 mg/kg). Lambs were monitored in the suckling period from birth to the age of 28 days. Sheep also consumed the same feed mixture, in amount of 400 g and meadow hay ad libitum. Of the production traits of lambs, body weight and body measurements were determined and daily gains and indices of physical development were calculated. There was no significant influence of different sources and concentrations of zinc in diet on the production traits of lambs, except in indices of body condition, which were significantly better in the lambs of the experimental group I. However, there was a positive trend in the improvement of production traits of lambs fed mixture supplemented with organic zinc in diets (experimental group I). The reason for the lack of significant improvement of productive traits of lambs may be due to their corresponding protein supply.
