Sažetak

The paper analyzes the possibilities of children’s creation of in terms of different visual art types and strategies. We have studied the strategies based on similarities, differences, and deviations. The theoretical part introduces several characteristics of preschool art expression in relation to artistic types and strategies (defined by: Karlavaris, 1986; Berce-Golob, 1991; Duh, 2009, 2012 etc.). The case study included nine preschool children, aged five and six. The research part consists of a detailed explanation of strategy construction of each child. The children were given a reproduction of “Harlequin” by Paul Cézanne, the needed material and other conditions for an undisturbed creative process. The results of the research show that in terms of artistic factors, the majority of children are of expressive artistic type; in terms of affinity to means of artistic expression, the majority are of coloristic artistic type, what was expected; and in terms of personality features, they are of slow and precise type, what was not expected. Results were interpreted and juxtaposed with characteristics of art expression in preschool period.
