Sažetak
The aim of this study was to determine consumer preferences when purchasing table eggs in the Tuzla area in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In order to collect the data, a questionnaire consisting of 8 questions was made. The first two questions referred to the socio-demographic characteristics (age and sex), while the second part of the questionnaire included 6 issues related to obtaining informations on the frequency of consumption and the place of eggs’ purchase, origin and brand of product, the selection of the market class, and the advantages and disadvantages of eggs as foodstuff compared to other food products that are used daily in the diet. A total number of 146 respondents were interviewed. By analysing the results of the survey it was found that most of the respondents were male (56.16%), aged 31-40 years (33.56%). Most of the respondents consume eggs daily (57.3%), and most often buy them in the store (32.19%). The survey results show that the origin is a significant parameter to which consumers of table eggs in the area of Tuzla pay attention when purchasing.
Even 97.95% of the surveyed citizens choose local manufacturers; while 56.16% of them state that they always select certain producers when purchasing eggs (the brand of the product is important to them). 50.00% of consumers decide to purchase a heavier egg that belongs to L market class. As the greatest advantage of eggs in comparison to other foodstuffs, 47 respondents state easy and quick preparation, while 44 respondents as advantage state the nutritional value of eggs. As major disadvantages when purchasing and consumption of eggs compared to some other food products that are used daily in the diet, respondents indicate a high level of cholesterol, a shorter shelf life and great possibility of eggs’ damage.
