Sažetak
Life without using digital devices on a daily basis has become unthinkable today. Children and young people are surrounded by technology and they are thinking and processing information very differently than people did before, that is why the question is no longer whether technology should be present in education, but only how, to what extent, in what manner, and at what rate we should transform the existing system of education. If the main characteristic of the Information Age is defined as widely distributed information-communication technology which increases the speed and efficiency of the transfer of information, schools are considered to be the perfect place to learn the safe, appropriate, purpose-specific, and useful method for utilising information. A research study, which was conducted before the newly created circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, indicated the fact that children in Croatia use digital technologies for learning and completing their school tasks much less than for their free activities, while the almost sudden need to implement and continuously maintain remote education has drastically altered the mentioned ratios. Classes outside of the classroom would not be possible without the use of digital technology and the extraordinary circumstances during the 2019/2020 schoolyear have confirmed the need for the implementation of the curriculum reform titled School for Life, which started with its frontal implementation during the same schoolyear, and it introduced significant changes to the forms and methods of implementing activities in educational institutions, but also a change of the existing educational tools and a digital transformation.
